Things That Go/ Transportation and FREEBIE

This post is for preschoolers/lower elementary students working on the category: Transportation!
Make sure you Check your local Dollar Tree!  The one on our side of town has LOTS of teacher/ educational resources. I like to get their foam stickers. They even have them broken into category or theme!

My young kids are working on categories. I figured I'd use my foam stickers and book(s) about things that go. For my preschoolers- Go Dog Go (By Dr. Seuss) book as it talks about and shows ways to get from here to there!

 

 

 

 

We went through the book talked about the types of things that go: bikes, cars, skates, skiis, etc.

We then went through my foam stickers and identified and labeled each piece.

Next week, we will go through newspapers, magazines, etc with the category sort worksheet. You can find the freebie worksheet HERE:

Classroom layout

Although I am contracted to serve kids at an elementary school, I thought that it would be important [to me] to be able to make it 'my space'. Also, we've been paying storage to house my belongings. I love working at a school!

You'll see pics of the room I have this year and what I have done with it. Some things are not pictured because they are at home.

Froggy's First Kiss Articulation and Language Packet

Hello Speechies!

Valentine's Day is around the corner! In honor of this special day, I have created an articulation and language (wh- questions and categories) packet based off of the book Froggy's First Kiss!

 

The picture above is what I have used for a few years. I have re created and added activities.The coin toss frog printable is from education.com. You can look at that one for yourself. I have recreated one for a Valentine theme.

 Included in the 10 page packet are:

-Articulation Word List from book
-Wh- Questions from book (who, what, where, how, why)
-Kiss Toss Game with frog and kisses/lips
- Bingo/ Dauber Board Game
-Categories Ladder Game


Not the best picture- But these are the games that go with the packet. On the left is the Bingo/ Dauber Game. I love Chipper Chat, so I try to find ways to extend the use out of my wand and chips. You can buy just the wand and chips separately, or if you do not have Chipper Chat, use a Bingo Dauber/Stamper (the Dollar Tree sells them), or put a sticker in each circle.

In the middle is the new frog toss game. I have included the kisses that you can laminate and cut out. I am still using the same one from almost 4 years ago. I taped them to poker chips so that they could be heavy enough to throw into Froggy's mouth. I taped Froggy to a file folder with enough space so that the kisses can fly inside.

To the right is a categories ladder game. All you'll need is a dice or a spinner with numbers (if you have board games, you could one of those for this- no need of spending extra money). Follow the arrows once you roll the dice and answer the questions related to categories. The first person who finishes wins!

Goodwill... doing the most Good!

Speechies-

Don't sleep on Goodwill! Although I probably have over 40+ board games (seriously), I did not resist going to Goodwill to see the "new" things in the gaming area. I came across some really good games (some I have had my eye on for several years). I bought six games total (one was for my personal home pleasure). They were all $3.99 and a nice lady swiped her Goodwill discount card for me. Yay! I spent roughly $21.00 all together. One game in itself is $32.00.

Hmm... want me to tell you what I purchased?

And for home- Outburst.

I will blog about how I have tweaked them for use in speech therapy. Some of them do not need to be tweaked as they are all focusing around using vocabulary and answering questions.  Stay tuned for more details!

Jeopardy in Speech Therapy

Welcome Speechies!

I figured I'd get started on my blogs.

 All of my 3rd-5th graders have been working on vocabulary by way of synonyms, antonyms, multiple meanings, descriptions, etc.

This week we are playing Jeopardy!  It's weird that most of my kiddos have never even heard of Jeopardy. (I can understand if they weren't active participants of the show at home, but most showed puzzled faces when I asked them if they had heard of the show).

I have played Dina Peters (speechtherapygames.com) free PowerPoint version of Jeopardy before, but wanted to "play" it again. My students enjoyed competing last time we played Jeopardy.

My categories are: synonyms, antonyms, questions (for listening comprehension), attributes and multiple meanings.

They will be using Eggspert to "ding in" their answers:

They will keep a count of their points by using their dry erase boards.

Final Jeopardy has four choices (labeled A-D) with the some of the same topics presented during the entire game. The person with the most points can choose which one the entire group will have to answer .

I plan to reward the winner with a McDonald's gift card.

I can use the Jeopardy board for any activity: language or articulation due to LAMINATING the board.

Materials: poster board, neon library pouches, markers, tape, and index cards.
