All About Apples Board Games!

I love to use the Apples theme towards the beginning of the school year. To make it easier on myself, I have created three (3) open ended games to use for all of my sessions. They can be used for articulation, language, fluency, etc. After practicing targeted speech sounds, language concepts, or while using slow and effortless speech, your student can add Bingo chips/ dauber, apples from the grab bag, or maneuver throughout the board game.

Game boards included:

1. Open Ended Board Game:
Be the first person to reach the bushel of apples!

2. Bingo Dauber/ Magnetic Chip Game :
Place your Bingo or Magnetic Chips on top of each apple once you practice your speech sounds/ language concepts!

 3. Apple Tree Grab Bag Game:
Beware of the Bad apples. The person with the most good apples on the tree is the winner!

Mrs. Moody, What's that?

What does that word mean? This is a common question made by my 4th and 5th graders. Every now and then I'll use a big word around them just to see if they are listening. Sometimes they will ask for me to tell them what it means.

 

Earth Day is coming up and I have created a context clues activity with related vocabulary. Once you print, laminate, and cut cards out, you can use them to match the vocabulary word with the appropriate definition. It has a bonus worksheet that can be used as a carryover with the same twelve (12) words presented earlier. The students can write their own sentence and later color the picture at the bottom of the page.

Mamma Mia!!

Mamma Mia!!! It's the Speecheria!!

Every year I love the pizza theme! All of the preschool and kindergartners are working on making pizzas. We are working on pizza vocabulary, colors, sequencing, and as reinforcement for articulation or fluency.

What you'll need: (ALL from the Dollar Tree)
-Construction paper. I had red (for sauce), brown (sausage), green (green peppers), white (onions), gray (mushrooms), yellow and orange (cheese), and black (olives)
-Paper plates (I have an abundance of these)
-Glue
-Maybe a sharpie/ black marker for labeling parts

You can use however you want. I first begin with a small book that I printed about pizza. (It's short and about 7 pages with short sentences.) You can then put the pizza together by identifying or naming items, then gluing them. For articulation, I drill a lot- so, after about 15-20 productions of the target sound, they can add pieces. We work on vocabulary by categories (meats: pepperoni, sausage, bacon, ham; veggies: peppers, mushrooms, olives, onions, tomatoes; dairy: cheese). You can also make them silly by discussing things that do not belong on a pizza (ie cow, car, etc.).

For the older kids- 1st and 2nd graders, I have been using Dina Peters board game with associated ~27 questions. I have had it for a few years, and I love to use it.

Things That Go/ Transportation and FREEBIE

This post is for preschoolers/lower elementary students working on the category: Transportation!
Make sure you Check your local Dollar Tree!  The one on our side of town has LOTS of teacher/ educational resources. I like to get their foam stickers. They even have them broken into category or theme!

My young kids are working on categories. I figured I'd use my foam stickers and book(s) about things that go. For my preschoolers- Go Dog Go (By Dr. Seuss) book as it talks about and shows ways to get from here to there!

 

 

 

 

We went through the book talked about the types of things that go: bikes, cars, skates, skiis, etc.

We then went through my foam stickers and identified and labeled each piece.

Next week, we will go through newspapers, magazines, etc with the category sort worksheet. You can find the freebie worksheet HERE:
